Insert Molding Machining: Different Methods
Insert molding is a great process to fabricate
a variety of products for industrial applications. There are different methods of
the process and thus insert molding is of different types.
Insert injection molding is a process that requires
encapsulating a previously fabricated product in molten resin to produce the
finished product. The inserted component is simple;an object such as a knife
blade or a surgical tube, but it may also include complex products such as
motor or battery.
It basically includes plastic insert molding and
it is ideal for improving the strength and reliability of a component. The
process is cost-effective and also reduces production time by avoiding the need
for secondary processes such as soldering, connecting, adhesion, etc. Based on
the type, manufacturers can have different mold inserts machining
requirements to complete their
production demands.
Overmoldingis also a type of molding, but is a
two-step process in which a plastic layer is molded over and around an already
molded part to produce one complete product. Likewise, insert molding also involves
joining two different components to form a final product. However, it’s a
little different as insert molding happens to be a single step process. The
already performed insert and molten resin are put together in the mold to
combine and form a part.
Insert injection molding, another popular
method, is quite like other molding methods. However, it differs in some
aspects of the process. In injection molding, two or more molten plastic resins
are injected into a mold to create one finished part.
